That sounds weird. Are you getting numbers in the New Words box?

Hello, everyone. I have been a Yabla member for eight years, and have used it every single day during that time. Sometimes I have spent hours straight on there; during more recent, busier times, I have found that, taking the ‘little and often’ approach, spending a mere 5 or 10 minutes on the site every day has vastly improved both my Spanish and German. It all adds up.
I have just logged on for the last time, having decided for various reasons not to renew my subscription for yet another year. So, for a while at least, this is it.
I feel I have to say something before I go. I really, really wish Yabla could give their users the option to opt-out of being part of the so-called leaderboards, and for their customers to keep their stats private. I have asked them about this already: apparently, as yet, it is not an option.
In the earlier days, I thought leaderboards were quite a fun concept, something to give me a bit of a push; but, the more I played it, the less I have come to like it, not just on Yabla but for any language tool with a similar competitive element. I appreciate some users take this gaming aspect as a motivating force, and they enjoy it, so more power to them. But for me, the idea of learning languages is to build bridges across different peoples and cultures. The very notion that it is instead a tool to vanquish, to declare “victory” over fellow learners - as if there is such a thing as winners and losers for something like this - completely baffles me. I simply don’t understand.
By virtue of playing it every day, I did, inadvertently, find myself topping the daily “streaks” leaderboards. I could have really done without a certain individual (they know who they are) Googling my user name, finding me online, and emailing me with some bizarre, entitled screed, essentially accusing me of cheating the system. Anyway - top spot is now up for grabs. It’s all yours.
Whether you play the games, or just wish to improve your language skills - one of the most rewarding and enlightening activities anyone can do with their free time - I wish you all buena suerte and viel Glück.

Best of luck with whatever you move on to next. I do find it good to mix up my methods every now and then myself. I know, btw, you're not the only one who wants that opt out option, so hopefully it is on a feature list somewhere. The leaderboards are fun and can be very motivating, but also a bit much sometimes when you aren't looking for that kind of competition.

¿Asististe al MeetUp de hoy? Si eres nuevo, sin duda te recomiendo que estés atento a ellos, ya que complementan muy bien los videos.

If that should happen to you again, go to the envelope in the lower left-hand corner that says "Feedback", the Yabla staff will address the problem. Explain it as best you can in english or spanish. That has always worked for me.

I had that happen a few times - seemed random and then worked again. No idea what caused it.

Did anybody else notice today that the games within the videos don't have the number of times you have played that game. I have always used that as a tool in knowing what games I have and haven't played without having to go out of the video to find out. I hope they replace it.

Do you mean the bar below the video in the videos list or when you are on the set page for something like Scribe?

No, after you click on games you arrive at the page that list all of the games. The games at the top "Vocabulary Review", "Multiple Choice", and "Fill in the blank" each had three medals next to them, one was gold, one was silver and I think the third one was cooper. Each of the medals had a number below it to show how many times you had completed games that corresponded to that medal.

Oh, I see what you mean! Yeah, it does look like they got rid of those. 🤔 I don't think I ever really used those myself, but instead sometimes looked at the numbers on the videos page which I can see have less info. How did those numbers work or games with multiple sets like Scribe? Was it showing one count for every set you completed at each medal 🥇 level?

Still looking to expand my chat partners, but to meet IN PERSON at a cafe. I live in Irvine, Ca. Presently, I meet with 2 chat partners, and meet with a Spanish chat group that I started a little over 10 years ago, also here in Irvine.Ca. Additionally, for the past 3 years, twice a week I teach my 88 year old Dad Spanish. Really great for Dad's brain. I say gently, I am not interested in a beginner, but rather an intermediate-advanced learner. Also, and again gently, no children please. Adult, retired or not, just fine. If someone from this Yabla community, also lives here in Irvine, Ca., or close by, and has interest in meeting face to face at a coffee shop, once a week for an hour or so, I will leave my email for contact to arrange a meetup. Again, not interested in online, Zoom, etc., only in person. My data:I am a female and retired, and committed to improving my fluency in this beautiful language. Email address: [email protected]
